Hash Generator

Generate cryptographic hashes from text or files. Uses your browser's built-in SubtleCrypto API — nothing leaves your device.

This hash generator computes SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 digests for both typed text and uploaded files, updating all four hashes live as you type. It's useful for developers verifying data integrity, checking a downloaded file against a published checksum, or generating a fingerprint for caching and deduplication — SHA-1 is included for legacy compatibility but flagged as deprecated since it's no longer collision-resistant. Output can be switched between hex and Base64 formatting, with an optional uppercase toggle for hex. The file-hashing section accepts drag-and-drop or a file picker and reports the same four algorithms for any file type. All hashing runs through the Web Crypto API's SubtleCrypto interface built into your browser, so text and files are digested locally and are never uploaded to a server.

How to Use Hash Generator

  1. Type or paste text into the input box to generate all four hashes at once.
  2. Toggle "UPPERCASE" or switch the format dropdown between HEX and BASE64 as needed.
  3. Click the copy icon next to any hash to copy it.
  4. To hash a file instead, drag and drop it onto the drop zone or click "Browse".
  5. Review the file's SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 hashes in the results list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Type or paste your text, select SHA-256, click Generate. The tool computes the hash digest using the browser's Web Crypto API — no server involved.

Yes. Switch to the File tab, drop your file, choose SHA-256/384/512. The tool computes the checksum for integrity verification.

SHA-256 produces a 256-bit cryptographically secure hash. MD5 produces 128-bit but is broken for security use. Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 for security-critical work.
