URL Encoder / Decoder

Encode/decode URLs and parse them into components. Supports both encodeURI and encodeURIComponent.

This url encoder and decoder handles two common jobs developers run into constantly: escaping special characters for safe use in links or query strings, and reverse-engineering an existing URL into its parts. Choose between encodeURIComponent, which escapes nearly every reserved character and is right for individual query values, or encodeURI, which leaves URL structure characters like slashes and colons intact for encoding a full address. The built-in URL parser takes any link and splits it into protocol, host, hostname, port, pathname, search string, and hash, then lists every query parameter as a separate key-value pair. It's a fast way to debug malformed links, inspect tracking parameters, or check exactly what a given encoded string decodes to before using it in code.

Frequently Asked Questions

encodeURI encodes a full URL, leaving :, /, ?, & intact. encodeURIComponent encodes a URL component value, escaping those characters too. Female Tools lets you choose both modes.
